A Biopic based on THIS Singer is needed next: and Florence Pugh should take the centre stage!
I Still Believe is a biopic film based off of singer Jeremy Camp, I Can Only Imagine is another based off of singer Bart Millard of Mercyme. So with these hit biopics, one has to wonder: if we will get another possibly titled You Say: based off of world renowned singer Lauren Daigle, and WHO should take the center stage for the starring role. This piece goes into chapters many don’t know about the singer, but highlight why they deserve to be brought to life in cinema.
Chapter of Isolation
Lauren Daigle’s time for her own biopic has been long overdue. Born and raised in Louisiana, Daigle’s home was called “The Music Box” by her mother because she was always singing. Her grandfather was a big influence on her life, and encouraged her to pursue her passions. However, whatever dreams she had at the age of 15 seemed to come to a standstill. She revealed in an interview with Guideposts “At first everybody thought it was mono. All I wanted to do was sleep. All I could do was sleep. No going to school, no seeing my friends, just lying in bed or on the sofa in front of the TV… I got worse. I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even lift the remote to change the TV channel.” Daigle recalled in an interview. “My parents took me to doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist. The doctors asked me a million questions and did a million tests. In the end, they said it was a disease called cytomegalovirus—a nasty, stronger cousin of mono—that can attack the liver and other organs”

Lauren Daigle (GCU News) |
Daigle’s diagnosis led her to being bedridden for nearly two years. This kind of plight, unlike other faith based films, is more unique. Many who’ve listened to the singer now don’t know that those two years shaped a huge chapter in her life. And as devastating as it was, it would make for the perfect opening chapter of a potential biopic and show this chapter of her life in a way that hasn’t been broadcasted. Especially considering chronic illnesses and forms of them, especially in young women, has risen in the last decade, and seeing this chapter of Daigle’s life portrayed could resonate with young women. The isolation is how she got closest to God, and in a moment when she was too weak to even brush her teeth, looking in the bathroom mirror: she said God gave her a vision of lights, cameras, and being on stage. The perfect setup for cinematography and visuals. She received more visions, and with singing lessons to keep her from falling into deeper depression, at 18 she found herself auditioning for season 9 of American Idol. When she missed the top 24, she auditioned the next year but sadly didn’t make it to Hollywood. Her third time is when she made it the farthest: but she was cut after the Las Vegas round.

Lauren Daigle (CCM Magazine) |
However, despite losing hope, Daigle signed with Centricity music. While she released singles, what planted her firmly in the Christian music industry was her album How Can It Be. For years before her rise to fame in both the Christian and the secular music industry, she was one of the most well known contemporary Christian artists of all time.
Christianity, Criticism, and mix of Cultures
Every biopic has its turning point, and this would be riveting for an audience to watch. It was just three years that passed before Lauren Daigle made a global impact in 2018 with her album, Look Up Child. Her hit single on it, You Say, blew up and garnered listeners all over the world. Her music video for You Say on YouTube has over 364 million views, with over a hundred thousand comments sharing how Lauren Daigle’s music changed their lives. Her album led to multiple Grammy and Billboard wins. And upon success of not only her single but all of her songs, Daigle appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Good Morning America, The TODAY Show, and so many more. With one album, her popularity quickly soared, garnering a lot of love: but also hate. Which is why she’s the perfect candidate for a biopic.

Lauren Daigle Performing "Still Rolling Stones" (Ellen Degeneres Show) |
It started when she made an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, when Lauren Daigle sang Still Rolling Stones live. Christians reacted both positively and negatively. Negatively as in… homophobia. Many users criticized that she chose to sing for Degeneres’ show, all because Degeneres identified as a lesbian and married to her wife of over thirty years. Daigle admitted with the criticism in an exclusive interview with People Magazine, “I flew home, got in my parents’ bed, and just cried for three days. I do feel like certain Christians were like ‘Is she real anymore? Has she gone to the dark side?’” More criticism included clothing choices, how many times she said “Jesus” in her songs and interviews (essentially treating her moments like bingo night) With this level of fame and thrust into the more secular world as a faith based artist, it would be quite the journey to see on the big screen. Films often show small town singers being thrust into the big business, but it would be unique to see it from a religious angle like Lauren’s when most of her criticism was faith based.

Lauren Daigle (Grammy Awards) |
For the Christian community, fame equaled Daigle’s faith lost or gone. Many couldn’t comprehend that the reason she rose to fame was through her unique vocals, writing and talent that pulled on the heartstrings of many. In fact, like in comments sections of her music videos, many came back to their Christian faith and religion after hearing Daigle’s music, and have had life changing faith based moments through it as well. The kind of vulnerability and conviction Daigle expressed makes her a compelling, real-life protagonist. She shows that loving like Christ often means being misunderstood—even by fellow believers. And the most important part in this all, is that before Daigle, Christian music and the secular world did not mix. That was rare. Yet it was Lauren Daigle who music legends embraced. It was Lauren Daigle who was in the mix of pop culture legends during their peak times in 2018 and 2019. She even befriended Selena Gomez through her music, Gomez publicly supporting Daigle on her Instagram stories, and Daigle speaking on it in interviews. And they both still show support for each other on social media to this day.
Aside from being present at awards shows, Daigle got to perform in front of artists that shaped the industry that hadn’t been touched with faith based music before. The reality is that since 2018, Christian music has never been the same. Before Lauren Daigle, these worlds colliding in today’s modern age hadn’t been done for a long time and not to this extent. But she made that happen. She was the one who brought both worlds together. And while she was heavily criticized for doing so, she was doing what she was told and taught to do by the authority of her faith. Her influence is why she is most deserving of having her story told on screen.

Lauren Daigle Performing at The Superbowl 2025 |
Daigle as a person has shown time and time again she is a loving person, living out her words and faith by starting her own foundation, the Price Fund, named after her grandfather, which is designed to help children and the elderly in multiple aspects. Time and time again, she’s shown care for And in this past year, including releasing her self titled album, collaborating with Andrea Bocelli and joining him in multiple live appearances, her latest big endeavor? Opening for the Super Bowl pregame alongside Trombone Shorty! Like many of the other greats, she got to sing “America The Beautiful”. And getting Travis Kelce to lip sync to her singing while focused for the big night is arguably a big accomplishment in itself. That would arguably be the perfect ending scene to a biopic for Lauren Daigle before facts about the singer roll onto the screen.
Florence Pugh to the “Rescue”?
So now the question to be answered… just who should play Lauren Daigle in a biopic? There’s one answer: Florence Pugh.
Florence Pugh gained traction after she made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova in Black Widow, starring alongside Scarlett Johansson who played the iconic Natasha Romanoff. However a lot of Florence Pugh’s fanbase had come from when she was in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women as Amy March, which earned her an Oscar nomination. Pugh has soared to fame herself in recent years since her Marvel debut however, being in Oppenheimer, Dune 2, and has most recently made headlines reprising her role as Yelena Belova in the upcoming movie Thunderbolts*.
So why would Pugh be the perfect casting choice to play Lauren Daigle in a biopic? Well, for starters, looks aren’t everything, but Florence Pugh does have some resemblance to Lauren Daigle. Between the hair, nose, eyes and even lips… there’s many side by side comparisons that would make one pause.

Florence Pugh (L) Lauren Daigle (R) |
The next and arguably most important factor is voice. Both Pugh and Daigle have smokey, low octave voices. Daigle has been referenced as “Christian Adele”, and her and Pugh don’t just have lower voices, but very similar ones too. Florence Pugh can most definitely sing like Lauren Daigle too. For her film A Good Person, she sang a few songs for the film. “The Best Part” and “I Hate Myself” were featured on the film’s soundtrack, and she even sang “With You All The Time”, for one of her big films Don’t Worry Darling. If you compare Florence Pugh’s singing voice to Lauren Daigle’s singing voice… they’re very similar. While Daigle’s vocals are hard to match, Pugh would be the closest to match them.

Florence Pugh (L) Lauren Daigle (R) |
And it’s no secret that when it comes to acting, Florence can carry big films and indie dramas, so a Lauren Daigle biopic could hit both faith-based audiences and mainstream viewers. The crossover appeal? Gold. Any film with Florence Pugh is a big win as she’s made a big name for herself. But she’s earned that big name from her talent and range. The crossover appeal? Gold.
And personality wise? Florence Pugh is known for being very humorous in real life and on social media. Lauren Daigle is actually the same way. Lauren Daigle goofing off on her stage in practices and rehearsals, and Florence Pugh goofing off on her movie sets. So to group everything together, when it comes to looks, personality, vocals and vocal style, Lauren Daigle and Florence Pugh share all of those in common. So it would only make sense if a biopic were made, that Florence Pugh was the one to take the center stage and play the role!

Florence Pugh Via her Instagram Stories |
Between Lauren Daigle’s inspiring story and hardships, her influence on music and music culture, and philanthropy, she is the perfect candidate for a biopic. It should have been done long before 2025, but hopefully with her more recent high profile endeavors, filmmakers will want to work on telling her story on the big screen: with Florence Pugh to fill the role.
